Women in Charge: Upcoming Student Association Plans

The Student Association (SA) is a committee unique to each university that focuses on the bettering of the school. At Southwestern Adventisit University, senior psychology major and SA president Yu Hu along with SA executive vice president Ashlyn Tyler, plan to do just that.

Hu moved to Texas from China when she was 15 and became a Christian her senior year, leading her to choose SWAU.

After four years on SA, Hu plans to make the transition between new and old officers seamless. Hu dreams of having an end-of-the-year party to release the Mizpah yearbook and believes SA is important because it allows students to choose their leaders and plan fun events.

Hu values having a bridge between administration to improve campus life. “The unique thing about us is that we can feel as connected as possible!” said Hu about SA.

Things Hu dreamed about three years ago, such as having a coffee center on campus, are becoming reality! Ivy Coffee will be selling coffee, teas, and more in the library lobby this upcoming week.

SA executive vice president and dedicated Jon Bellion fan, Ashlyn Tyler, also has big plans. Tyler, a third year kinesiology major, along with her team of senators want to keep Knights Market and Grill open later, lower the prices of washers and dryers in the dormitories, come up with a new worship credit system, and create a pep rally to support all sports teams! Like Hu, Tyler wants to leave a legacy. “Everyone has a voice whether you think you do or not...you should be able to express and be heard!”
